Dharma.

A term used to describe an individual’s moral duty. A set of rules to guide one through a righteous life. A word overused in the Hindu mythology.

An expression derived from the Satya Yuga. A golden age where individuals adhered to their duties, unambiguously. The gods quickly realized that things got too merry too soon for them to sustain humankind. After all, everyone is concerned with low attrition rates—even the gods.

They decided to introduce a little chaos: vices were infused into the ecosystem, culminating in the Treta Yuga, the time of Ram. As we all know, the Ramayana from the Treta Yuga was a story of Good vs. Evil.

This story, however, is from the Dvapar Yuga. A story from the land of Bharat about a critical period during the Dvapar Yuga. An event that set off a string of conflicts that have repercussions to this day. It is a period when Dharma turned malleable to suit one’s ambitions. This is a story of Evil vs. Lesser Evil.

Finally, for the readers from the Kali Yuga, good luck with that realpolitik :)
